Monticello Fighting Hunger
About the Event-
Did you know that over 1.9 million people in the state of Illinois and 14% of the population in East Central Illinois are considered food insecure, which means they do not have regular access to nutritious food. Additionally, there is nothing quite like a large community effort to address food insecurity at home that brings people together.
In 2015, over 500 volunteers from all across Central Illinois banded together and prepared over 100,000 meals (105,850 to be exact), with distribution of the prepared meals to Piatt County food pantries, and the Eastern Illinois Food Bank. There were scouts, science fiction groups, church clubs, seniors, cheerleaders, athletes... so many came out to this event- tables made up their own cheers, table team costumes were worn, random dancing flash mobs happened -it was phenomenal!
Therefore, we're bringing it back! On February 24, 2018 we will again be hosting another massive meal packaging event at the MONTICELLO MIDDLE SCHOOL.
So grab your friends, family and neighbors, and sign up to help this über- volunteer effort that central Illinois will benefit from! Volunteer groups can be all ages and sizes, but parents, please use your discretion- 6 and older is recommended
